Best-Ever Mickey Mouse Butter Cookies

Posted in Party Time! with tags , on March 22, 2011 by Lucinda

These gorgeous pink and white Mickey Mouse cookies were given in lieu of cards at my family’s Valentine party this year. My favorite aunt brought them.

She used the cookie recipe on the Disney site and topped them with a colorful rolled fondant. The cookies turned out perfectly and looked too good to eat! Somehow, we all managed. ;)

I’ve copied Disney’s butter cookie recipe here:

2 cups of butter (4 sticks)
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
4 egg yolks
1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon almond extract, optional
4 1/2 cups unbleached flour
1/2 teaspoon salt

Beat butter together with the sugar in large bowl until light and fluffy.

Add egg yolks and extracts and mix well.

Sift flour and salt together and add to butter mixture, beating until just combined. Wrap well with plastic and chill until firm (if rolling or shaping).

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

To make cookie cutter cookies chill dough until firm (at least 1 hour). Roll dough to about 1/2 inch thick and cut with cookie cutters. Place on cookie sheets and bake for 10 minutes.

Cool on waxed paper and decorate.

Now I best find a gluten-free butter cookie recipe so I can make Mickey Mouse cookies myself.

It’s Party Time! – Disney In-Home Celebration

Posted in Mickey Moms, Party Time! with tags on May 24, 2010 by Lucinda

I prepared treats a day ahead and cleaned house as much as the three year-old would allow me. Decorating began first thing party morning. While the boys were off on a balloon run, I finished tending to details.

I still had my cake to decorate so I iced it hurriedly. It was cute enough, but looked obviously rushed. The treat table was adorned with a ceramic castle, a magic wand, balloons, Walt Disney World celebration buttons and Keys to the World cards from past trips.

As usual, I was preparing for the party right down to the last minute, then my guests started to arrive. One family was especially anxious to attend as they were seven days away from their first ever trip to Walt Disney World. They were the first to show up.

The Disney Vacation Planning DVD played on my television. A vacation slideshow with photos from my past Disney trips displayed on the laptop on the gift and game table.

Here, I decorated with streamers, a giant plush Mickey, more balloons and a large beautiful planter of brightly colored red impatiens, yellow violas and blue lobelia flowers. I scattered the confetti from the party kit with some genuine Main Street pixie dust around the table top. My favorite Mickey Mouse cookie jar acted as centerpiece on a third table.

My guests and I discussed all things Disney and other things Relay for Life. Everyone filled up on sweets and had a wonderful time talking.

The treat bags and Mickey crispie treats were a big hit but I completely forgot about the games I had planned. I can be such a scattered hostess sometimes, trying to do everything at once while socializing too. I usually require a co-host of some sort for just this reason.

The kids were having fun with the balloons and just being together so they didn’t even notice my blunder (well…not until after the party). No matter…the games will be put to use at future gatherings. I absolutely love the WDW bingo game!

I’m so happy and thankful to have been selected as a Big Red Box recipient.  The treat bags were very nice with a few truly unique items.  I would love to have seen sticker sheets or temporary tattoos in them too, but those are easy enough to add yourself.

In place of the napkins, which were a little on the boring side, I would rather have had party invitations included with the kit. A few party decorations would have been nice too. I only mention these as suggestions, not as complaints. I’m grateful to have received anything at all.

Aside from my pink canvas tote, I think the balloons were my favorite items in the box.  I know many other box recipients had problems inflating theirs, so perhaps a notice or instructions should have been included.  I did not have problems with mine on party day, but I did try blowing one up by mouth when my box first arrived and whoa, those ears are resistant!

Thank you Mickey Moms Club for allowing me to try out the In-Home Celebration kit. I enjoyed putting my party together with all that was included and was happy to share Disney magic with my guests.

How Will You Celebrate? – In-Home Celebration

Posted in Mickey Moms, Party Time! with tags on May 18, 2010 by Lucinda

My guest list includes the usual suspects. Family and friends who also happen to be members of my Relay for Life team have been invited. Each year, we participate in and fund-raise for our local Relay event as the Pink Jell-o Posse. My Big Red Box will help us celebrate the approach of our fourth year as a team. The party will serve to recognize and reward members for all the hard work behind us and will hopefully provide motivation to conquer the tasks ahead. May this be our best year yet!

I was originally hoping for a grand garden party in my father’s immense back yard amid the flower beds and orchard. I planned for elaborate activities, swanky prizes, a delectable Walt Disney World menu and snazzy decor. My ideas leaped way beyond my current finances and available time, plus the weather has been extremely uncooperative. I’ve come down from my big party cloud and have settled on a smaller event at my own home.

The party colors are red, yellow and blue. I love bold colors so these will be fun to work with. The party theme is “Outdoors in Spring” even though my party will be indoors.

I made invitations from card stock. I scanned my “What Will You Celebrate?” pin for the card graphic. I enlarged and printed the image then cut it out and glued it to the front of the card. I included bits of genuine Main St. pixie dust in the card design as well…a personal sacrifice. The party details were typed out using Waltograph font, then printed, cut and pasted into the inside of the folded card. They turned out beautifully and were hand-delivered or mailed once finished.

The party menu includes a Mickey Mouse confetti cake, dark chocolate cupcakes, ice cream and Mickey Mouse rice crispie treats…Sprite, sweet tea, and milk to drink. I purchased matching plates, cups, napkins and table cloths from my local dollar store. The balloons will be filled just prior to the party and I plan to purchase a few yellow and blue ones to add to the bright red Mickeys.

I think I’m ready now! Now to put all the plans into action. Are we there yet?!?
